Mint employees in Ottawa and Winnipeg showed their PRIDE and allyship in 2023, raising the Pride flag and marching in Pride Parades by the dozens in both locations. With participation from across the corporation, employees led the initiative, serving as parade marshals and ambassadors for the Mint in their respective cities.

Both the Winnipeg Pride and Ottawa’s Capital Pride Parades saw record attendance with more than 10,000 participants and thousands of supporters lining city streets.

Employees Daniel Tapar and Virginia Syrowitz helped organize the Mint’s first march in the Winnipeg Pride Parade in June 2023. The event was record-breaking with more than 10,000 total parade participants.

Walking in the Capital Pride Parade is very important to me. It's a wonderful event where LGBTQIA2S+ communities are celebrated, and where all are included. I'm proud that the Mint supports this cause.

Daniel Tapar was one of the Winnipeg Mint's Pride Parade Marshalls along with colleague Virginia Syrowitz. They helped organize the Mint’s participation in the Parade – a first for Winnipeg.

“I realized at the end of event that everyday is a chance to make changes to create the life we want,” said Daniel. “Accepting each other is not just a once a year event, parades are not only inspiring celebrations of differences but also a declaration of good intention, visibility and equality to all human beings.”

At both parades, Mint employees gave out free tour passes to the crowd and proudly displayed coin props of the 2019 Equality Coin, a symbol of diversity and the journey to inclusion, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality.
