As of June 2023, the Royal Canadian Mint achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification for all its locations, following a rigorous audit of our environmental management system (EMS).

Part of the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 14001:2015 is a standard that identified the requirements for an environmental management system. Organizations that certify to this standard can minimize their environmental impact, focus on continuous improvement and ensure compliance through a proven structure consistent with other ISO certifications.

The road to ISO 14001:2015 certification across all Mint locations facilities dates back more than five years, when work began on the Winnipeg implementation plan. In 2020, the Mint updated its Environmental Policy to reflect the requirements of the standard, helping employees become better environmental stewards. This included updates to processes as well as facility-wide goals and initiatives.

Employees across the Mint played an important role in obtaining this certification.

Employees across the organization worked diligently to better understand the environmental impacts related to the work they do as well as ensure any on-the-job training assessments considered environmental factors when needed. Everyone that completed their EMS Awareness training also contributed to the success of this audit.
