Meet Vulpes vulpes, a clever and resourceful hunter found in all Canadian provinces and territories – in fact, the red fox is one of Canada’s most widespread mammals.
The red fox is curious yet timid, and it makes its home in a variety of habitats across Canada – from forests to farms, mountains to grasslands, and even suburbs. The red fox is fast and light on its feet. It is equipped with excellent eyesight and night vision, a keen sense of smell and acute hearing that can detect the slightest movement of prey species, including the small mammals (voles, mice, rabbits and more) that make up part of this omnivore’s seasonal diet.
Surprisingly, some red foxes aren’t red: other common colours are brown and black. A male has an average weight of up 6.8 kilograms and an average length of up to 1.2 metres, though its bushy tail – one of several adaptations that allow it to survive cold Canadian winters – accounts for about a third of that total length.
The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
A variety of bullion coins and bars are available to purchase through select dealers. The retail price of bullion products is based on the international gold, silver and platinum market prices, which vary daily. Bullion coins do not have any fixed mintage unless otherwise stated.
