Our 2024 journey began with the launch of annual favourites like our proof set in early January and continued throughout the year with special events, award-ceremonies and monthly coin releases —which included the introduction of many firsts. Before we turn the page on a new calendar year, let’s look back on some highlights from 2024.

Fine Silver Proof Set – 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (2024)

2024 $1 150th Anniversary of the Birth of L. M. Montgomery

The first Canadian circulation coin to celebrate an author.

2024 $2 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force

A tribute to the service the RCAF has brought to Canada and the world.

2024 $2 Celebrating Inuit Nunangat

A first for a Canadian circulation coin —a design created jointly by four Inuit artists, each representing one of the four regions of Inuit Nunangat.

Double Extraordinarily High Relief (EHR)

Two Year of the Dragon coins, one in fine silver and one in pure gold, feature this new minting process.

“Heart of the forest” Pulsating Field Pattern

A new pulsating field pattern of mist-shrouded trees comes into view on three numismatic coins available in 1 oz. pure gold, a 1 oz. fine silver and a 5 oz. fine silver.

One-of-a-kind coin

A new sale record for a coin offered at auction in Canada was reached in November when the 2024 10 kg 99.99% Pure Gold Coin – The Dance Screen (The Scream Too) sold for $1,561,250.00 CAD.

We became the first Canadian refiner to implement a solution that can trace gold’s journey through the supply chain. 

Single Mine Bullion

Our third coin in this category is entirely composed of gold from Agnico Eagle’s Detour Lake Mine.

Small gram denomination bars

Two new gold bars, a 10g and 50g denomination, are available for the first time in 2024.

Most Inspirational Coin

The 2023 Pure Silver Coin – Allegory of Peace is a symbol of Canada’s longstanding commitment to peace and was recognized at the 41st Coin of the Year Awards in 2024.

2024 Best new coin product, process or manufacturing innovation

A new environmentally responsible process for plating bronze-coloured circulation coins was recognized by the International Association of Currency Affairs in 2024.

2024 Best New Commemorative or Test Circulating Coin

Produced at our facility in Winnipeg, the 25-cent double-coloured circulation coin celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Central Bank of The Bahamas became the world’s first commemorative circulation coin with double-sided colour.
