As of June 2023, the Royal Canadian Mint achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification for all its locations, following a rigorous audit of our environmental management system (EMS).
Part of the International Organization for Standardization, ISO 14001:2015 is a standard that identified the requirements for an environmental management system. Organizations that certify to this standard can minimize their environmental impact, focus on continuous improvement and ensure compliance through a proven structure consistent with other ISO certifications.
The road to ISO 14001:2015 certification across all Mint locations facilities dates back more than five years, when work began on the Winnipeg implementation plan. In 2020, the Mint updated its Environmental Policy to reflect the requirements of the standard, helping employees become better environmental stewards. This included updates to processes as well as facility-wide goals and initiatives.
Employees across the Mint played an important role in obtaining this certification.

The in-person audit evaluated the Mint's processes, controls and emergency response plans such as spill kits and chemical storage. This was complemented by a virtual audit which focused on leadership, planning, training and high-level emergency response.
“No non-conformances were identified which means we have a solid Environmental Management System”, said Kristine.
The Mint also holds ISO: 9000:2015 certification for both locations, which measures quality management standards.
The ISO 14001-2015 is a voluntary program. The Mint has embarked on a corporate-wide journey to enhance environmental stewardship and prioritize sustainable practices. This certification is part of the Mint's broader ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) commitment. Learn more at: Environmental, Social & Governance | The Royal Canadian Mint
