The Mint is hiring a Financial Analyst, General Finance and Reporting who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, the Financial Analyst, General Finance and Reporting will assist their leader and peers to effectively and efficiently execute on day-to-day general accounting and external reporting activities. The incumbent support the Senior Manager, Finance’s objectives by recommending and driving operational efficiencies of the monthly close and reporting processes, the annual audit processes and ensure all controls meet quarterly and annual certification requirements.
The Financial Analyst, General Finance and Reporting will be an integral part of a team of finance professionals that will work well with other stakeholders at all levels to educate and support business requirements as accounting policies change. Your focus will be on creating your own measures of excellence, and your organizational skills and analytical thinking capabilities will ensure all financial and management reporting, including accounting policies, are in accordance with IFRS.
Your Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review and analyze financial statements with referenced work papers.
- Prepare financial statement notes and supporting schedules to support the development and preparation of quarterly and annual external financial statements.
- Assist with the researching and documenting of IFRS accounting policies and prepare technical accounting position papers and maintain related internal accounting procedures.
- Assist with the accounting close cycle, including preparing journal entries and running required close processes and reports.
- Prepare the Public Accounts working papers on a quarterly basis.
- Prepare the cash flow statements and develop cash analysis dashboards.
- Prepare balance sheet reporting package including financial ratios, variance analysis with explanations, etc.
- Review procurement and legal contracts to identify and evaluate accounting implications.
- Assist the Senior Manager, Finance with preparing and addressing all informational and analytical requests from the external auditors.
- Action other responsibilities as assigned, including projects or initiatives to ensure successful delivery on General Accounting and Reporting objectives.
This opening is to be filled on a hybrid working arrangement, and the incumbent will be required to work from the Ottawa location generally on an average of one day per month which could change based on operational requirements.
This selection process may also qualify you for other positions with similar requirements and qualifications.
Qualifications:
Languages Requirements:
- An intermediate level of bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required. Other language profiles will be considered if a bilingual candidate is not identified
Education & Designation:
- Bachelor’s in accounting, finance or related areas
- Professional designation i.e. CPA - Chartered Professional Accountant
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of related business experience in technical accounting and financial reporting in accordance with IFRS
- Strong background in business processes and internal controls
Additional Qualifications:
- Excellent communications skills – both verbal and written to present complex financial data in an organized, concise manner
- Team player, with strong work ethic and organizational skills to work independently as well
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
