The Mint is hiring a Machinist/Mechanic who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Machinist is responsible for set-up, program, operate and maintain machining equipment and tooling to manufacture or recondition to close tolerance parts and precision tooling to drawing specifications and test for functionality. Repair, assemble, troubleshoot, modify and adjust manufacturing machinery and equipment.
This opening is to be filled on a continuous operation and/or shift work basis as determined by Production demands.
Qualifications:
Language Requirements:
- English proficiency is essential
Education & Designation:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Must possess a valid Manitoba or Inter-Provincial Journeyman Machinist certificate
Experience:
- Experience in repairing and assembling manufacturing machinery
- Experience using GibbsCAM software

- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, identifying practical solutions, and providing clear recommendations
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including ability to co-operate with supervisors and colleagues and ability to foster relationships with other employees to enhance the team environment
- Ability to set-up, operate, program and maintain various machining equipment to manufacture tooling and parts to close tolerances and to a high degree of precision
- Ability to assemble, install, rebuild, maintain, repair, modify and set-up manufacturing and building equipment
- Ability to work from mechanical drawings, conduct regular preventative maintenance on machine shop tools and equipment
- Ability to show initiative and creativity
- Ability to set-up and operate shop machines such as CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, drill presses and grinders and ability to determine correct cutting speeds and feeds
- Ability to plan and organize activities as well as materials and resources required
- Ability to ensure that the Mint policies and procedures applicable to safety and security are rigidly adhered to
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills
Knowledge :
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and superior fabrication knowledge
- Machining equipment and manufacturing of tooling and parts
- Mechanical drawings
- Routine machining maintenance, quality checks on parts and material handling duties
- Knowledge of Health & Safety principles and best practices
